Spotlight on Social Events: Making Friends, Building Community

A critical part of Eshel’s mission is to build community for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families so that they can break isolation, grow, and thrive. We do this not just through support groups, but by coming together as a community to connect, enjoying one another’s company, and sharing experiences. It can be easy to feel alone when we don’t see many people like us in our Orthodox communities – but our Eshel family reminds us that we are part of a powerful community!

This month, we have several opportunities for you to make new friends and have a blast with Eshel! We can’t wait to see you at one of our upcoming events:

Calling all trivia enthusiasts and competitive spirits! Join us for a lively evening of trivia, delicious food, and great company at the JCC Manhattan. Put your knowledge to the test with trivia questions covering all things Purim, Jewish, and queer. Whether you’re a trivia pro or just looking to have a good time with friends, this event is for you! RSVP now to secure your spot!

LGBTQ+ individuals and parents in the Baltimore/DC area are all invited to join us for an evening of hamantaschen baking in preparation for Purim. Connect with community members as we roll, fill, and bake these delicious treats together. This event will be hybrid so if you can’t make it in person, join us on Zoom to share in the conversation!

Join us as we celebrate Rosh Chodesh Adar II and International Women’s Day with a meaningful morning of Torah, dessert, and tzedaka. Come together with other women in the community to study, reflect, and pack gift bags that we will be donating. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with and celebrate women and make a positive impact in the world. Sign up to take part!

And of course, for those in the New York area, join us on Purim for the Vashti Ball, JQY’s queer community Purim party cosponsored by Eshel! We have some surprises for you at the party this year, so we hope you’ll be there to celebrate with us.

As always, we have recurring groups that meet over Zoom, so if our in-person events are not local to you, make sure to check out our calendar for a group that may be a fit for you. Whether in person or on Zoom, we hope to see you soon to find new connections, celebrate with our community, and make memories.
