Eshel Campus Fellowship
Eshel is offering a campus fellowship on NY college campuses to develop leaders with the knowledge, skills, and training to be culturally sensitive advocates of LGBTQ+ inclusion in Orthodox spaces.
With the support of the Eshel team and their cross-campus student cohort, fellows will organize one-on-one and small group meetings to engage Orthodox students and Jewish campus leadership in furthering LGBTQ+ allyship and develop and execute 2-4 programs for their peers per semester on their campuses, including community events, and workshops on allyship.

Monthly Virtual Cohort Gatherings
Fellows will meet virtually monthly for training, reflection, and peer support. Eshel staff will provide pastoral care, specialized learning opportunities, support, and guidance to help the fellows plan and deliver programming. Growing confidence and resilience through mentorship, peer support, and ongoing reflection.
Mentoring
Eshel’s Campus Project Coordinator, Sophia Nachmanoff will mentor fellows Rabbi Steve Greenberg will serve as a guide for their spiritual challenges, and Eshel’s counseling and programming teams will be available for expert advice and support.
Stipend
$1,000 upon completion of full year and requirements of participation
Fellowship Requirements
Participation in the Eshel Campus Fellowship is a commitment to active engagement, growth, and partnership in building a welcoming Orthodox community on campus and beyond. Fellows are expected to:
- Attend an in person, day long, training seminar in NYC
- Attend and actively engage in the monthly training sessions during which the fellows will:
- acquire new tools, textual resources, and organizing skills
- share insights born of experience (both challenging and encouraging)
- and support peers3.
- Actively engage with both leadership and peers in one-on-one and small group meetings around LGBTQ+ allyship
- Deliver 2-4 programs on LGBTQ+ allyship aimed specifically for the Orthodox communities campus and beyond.
Key Dates & Timeline

- October 1st: Applications open
- December 5th: Fellowship Applications due
- October 1st-December 8th: Applications reviewed by Eshel staff November 10th-December 12th: Interviews
- December 15th: Cohort Selected and Fellowship Begins December 22nd: Introductions on Zoom
- January 25th: 11am-5pm In-Person Gathering
- Zoom gatherings (dates TBD by poll) in January, February, March, April, and May
- June: celebratory gathering for those able to attend in Manhattan
Application Process

- Virtual Interview – If you are selected for an interview, you will meet virtually with Sophia Nachmanoff, the fellowship program manager, and/or Rabbi Steve Greenberg for a virtual 45 minute interview.
- Notification of Acceptance – If you are granted acceptance as a Fellow you will receive an agreement to sign, affirming your full commitment to the fellowship experience, including attendance at all sessions. (We understand that unforeseen circumstances, such as illness or other life events, may occasionally arise, and we ask that you be in touch with us promptly if such situations arise.)
