SUMMARY:Homosexuality and Halakhah: Pragmatic\, Ideal and Real Responses to the Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Place: At the home of Dina and Michael Glouberman in Beverlywood. RSVP for address.\nSince the 1970’s\, Orthodox gay Jews\, their family members\, and friends have sought sought guidance from rabbinic leadership to help them grapple with emotionally fraught questions of religious belief\, halakhic observance and belonging.  Rabbi Steve Greenberg will explore the various halakhic responses that continue to shape the lives of individuals and families. On the basis of an Eshel survey of 60 Orthodox rabbis\, he will offer three distinctive Orthodox approaches to this challenging new set of human realities. \nEshel works with Los Angeles lay leaders thanks to a grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles. \n \nRSVP HERE

SUMMARY:LGBT and Orthodox: Three Journeys and a Few Things to Think About
DESCRIPTION:Place: At the home of Susie and Fred Toczek in Beverlywood. RSVP for address.\nMeet the panelists: \nMichal\, an attorney and a mom\, is a Hillel/YULA/Michlala/Drisha alum. She is committed to halakha\, but felt unwelcome in the Orthodox community when she and her partner moved back to Los Angeles from New York 10 years ago. \nJeremy is a gay Modern Orthodox millennial trying to make it in Hollywood. Coming from the more conservative Midwest\, Jeremy found a home in Los Angeles to create a space for both his religious and LGBT identity. \nSheryl’s college aged daughter just came out. Drama? Trauma? Angst? Not really. Everyone is just fine. \n \nModerated by Miryam Kabakov and Rabbi Steve Greenberg\, co-directors of Eshel.  Refreshments served. \nRSVP HERE
