  • 1990s Informal networks of support formed for LGBTQ Orthodox and Traditional Jews, including OrthodykesNY and GLYDSA
  • 2001 Film Trembling Before G-d released, starting larger conversations about Orthodoxy and LGBTQ identities
  • 2004 Nehirim formed to serve LGBTQ Jews of all religious backgrounds
  • 2010 Nehirim received funding to start project targeting Orthodox LGBTQ Jews which later became “Eshel”
  • 2010 First Annual National Retreat for Orthodox LGBTQ Jews
  • 2012 Eshel established as an independent organization
  • 2012 First Annual Midwest Retreat
  • 2012 First Parent Support Groups
  • 2013 First Annual Parent Retreat
  • 2014 Eshel LA begins
  • 2014 Eshel establishes its first New York home at Makom Hadash
  • 2014 Eshel vetted by the Slingshot Foundation
